About Those Rising Health Care Costs…
Yesterday, the Medicare actuary’s office released its annual report on health spending, which found that national health expenditures rose by 7.2 percent in 2024, coming immediately after a 7.4 percent increase in 2023.
There are several other interesting nuggets in the report. Most notably, spending on Exchange subsidies rose by a whopping 34.9 percent in 2024—this after 25.5 percent growth in 2023. And the actuary’s analysis contained not one but two separate references to the growth in Medicare spending on skin substitutes, evidence of the ridiculous uptake in that (questionable) product.
But overall, one can’t read the report without thinking back to Barack Obama’s repeated claims in 2008 and 2009 that his health care plan would cut premiums by $2,500 per family per year:
